UPDATE More Coachella Valley Cities Adopting State Law

The California Massage Therapy Act of 2015 (CHAPTER 10.5. Massage Therapy Act [4600 - 4621]) is now three years old.  In that law, cities and municipalities had the option of keeping th eir existing massage education requirements or adopting those specified in the Act.  The Act specified a minimum of 500 hours, including 100 hours of Anatomy and Physiology, Business and Ethics and Health and Hygiene as well as successful passing of the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination or  MBLEX.

The act also specified that education must come from schools approved by the California Massage Therapy Council.   Many of our cities were quick to adopt the state law, with Palm Desert and Palm Springs going first.  However, just this past year,  Ranch Mirage, La Quinta and Indian Wells each said they would no longer accept just a city license, these cities are requiring massage therapists to have a CAMTC issued Certificate.

Why is this important?  Somatherapy knows we have many long time therapists that completed their education years ago, whereby their education may be from schools that have gone out of business.  In these cases, it may be necessary for therapists to take additional courses, or in rare cases start over.
Somatherapy is the only local school where therapists can complete their education.  Because of our approvals and our flexible schedule, we can consult with you on how to fill in the gaps and prepare for the MBLEX.  Furthermore, if by chance you are one of our legacy students from years back, we likely have your transcript and you can add to your education to bring your education into compliance.  Finally, we have heard that the cities have sometimes "promised" not to change their requirements but then did.  The best strategy is to update/finish your educational requirements and get the one certification that is accepted across the state - the CAMTC Certification.

Call our office at 760.321.9214 if you wish for us to assist you with compliance.

Advanced Certifications Build Skill & Credibility

Somatherapy Advanced Certifications  - Why They are Important
A serious Massage Therapist knows how important it is to always be updating their skills.  Choosing to earn an Advanced Certification can open many doors and create lasting opportunities for Massage Therapists.

Not only will you feel better about yourself knowing that you've invested in new techniques and advanced courses but your clients will value your skills, trust your recommendations and be loyal to your treatment plans.

One of the great things about choosing Somatherapy for your advanced training is that
you have the ability to receive not one but three different certifications in a single process.

You can receive a Medical Massage Therapist Certificate for completing an additional 140 hours of medical related training*.   Those Medical Massage Hours also apply to Somatherapy Courses Count Toward Board Certification our Holistic Health Practitioner Certification which is 1000 hours. Finally, all of those hours would apply toward your required National or Board Certification from the NCBTMB.

NCBTMB Board Certification is the highest voluntary credential in the industry.  Board Certification from the NCBTMB requires 250 hours of hands-on experience and 750 hours total training and a the BCETMB exam. According to the NCBTMB, "Board Certification now aligns the massage therapy and bodywork profession with other allied health and medical professions, enhancing value and credibility to what we do best. In fact, many health care facilities and even some high-end spas now require Board Certification to apply for and achieve higher-level, rewarding positions."

What is important to note here is that in order to receive the Board Certification you must have completed your schooling at an NCBTMB Assigned School.  Somatherapy has achieved this distinction.  Each of these Certification require successful passing of all courses and final examinations and requirements.  Call for details: 760.321.9214
